Serge Poliakoff (Mosca, 8 gennaio 1906 – Parigi, 12 ottobre 1969) è stato un pittore russo naturalizzato francese nel 1962, è associato al movimento espressionista europeo Tachisme e al gruppo CoBrA.
Poliakoff lasciò la sua città natale durante la Rivoluzione Russa nel 1917 e fece il viaggio d Costantinopoli a Parigi in 6 anni, mantenendosi suonando la chitarra. A Parigi frequentò L’Académie de la Grande Chaumière dove lavorò in classico stile accademico. Dopo un viaggio a Londra nel 1935 si può notare l’influenza dell’astratta arte egiziana e di artisti come Wassily Kandinsky, Robert Delaunay e Otto Freundlich. Sviluppò poi il suo stile di pittura astratta caratterizzato da aree di colori che si incastrano. Negli anni ’40 la gamma di colori era limitata ad una serie di sfumature di grigio e nero, negli anni ’50 invece si espanse all’utilizzo di colori luminosi. Negli ultimi anni di vita Poliakoff soffrì di problemi di salute, i quali condussero alla produzione di un minor numero di opere.
